HOME SWEET HOME.

Saturday, January 16th, 2010

Our friend, Shane, recently filmed this video to promote Kinfolk Bicycles, which are gorgeous + handbuilt in in Kansai, Japan.  We know we tend to babble on far too much about our love for Tokyo, but we do sincerely love San Mateo as well.  So, it’s great to see our adopted hometown in this video. =)

Shane is also the owner of two awesome hiphop barbershops near Sweet Breams, The San Mateo Zoo + Headshots (both are highly recommended and are appointment only).  Unsurprisingly, he loves Japan almost as much as we do, and helped to inspire the documentary, Tokyo 2 Osaka.  We’re definitely looking forward to this movie, which drops in the next few months.  Tokyo 2 Osaka is directed/produced by Nic Hill of Underdog Pictures.

Proof that the world is a very small place: in 2005, a co-worker of ours who we’ve since lost touch with (and who is also one of the riders in Tokyo 2 Osaka) brought us to the initial screening of Piece by Piece, a movie about San Francisco graffiti he helped to produce, which Nic also directed.

Miss Tokyo every day.

We heart the above video that the awesome folks over at The Golden Crate posted on their site a few days ago, and just had to share it with you.

PSST…We’ve decided to make a couple of ideas created by our customers ‘official’ by adding them to our not-so-secret menu:

No Layers: For the Breamie who likes serendipity and/or adventure (or is simply in a hurry).  =)  Just let us know that you would like us to NOT layer (separate the different flavours of chibi taiyaki) your school.

Kids’ Cup + 6 Chibi Taiyaki: Are 3 chibi taiyaki on a kids’ sundae too few for you?  For $4.25, you can get a kids’ size cup of soft serve with 6 chibi taiyaki on top.

CATCH OF THE WEEK: Bananas + walnuts have joined forces to become our Catch of the Week, Banana Walnut. =)

Breakfast Adventures from Underdog Pictures on Vimeo.

Our friends over at The Golden Crate turned us onto the Tokyo to Osaka project, a 35 minute documentary chronicling the adventures of 13 cyclists, including Shane Nesbitt, owner of the ever so cool San Mateo Zoo, who will ride 350 miles from Tokyo to Osaka in the course of about a week.  Tiny and Tasty admire the passion these guys have for fixed gear cycling + love creative endeavours such as this one.
